Confidently Approach the Throne...

My thoughts today were taken to Hebrews. Maybe because I wrote an article about Yom Kippur today. I was reminded of High Priests and sacrifices. So, I chose Hebrews 4:15-16

For we do not have a cohen gadol unable to empathize with our weaknesses; since in every respect he was tempted just as we are, the only difference being that he did not sin. Therefore, let us confidently approach the throne from which God gives grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need. (CJB)

First I should explain what a “cohen gadol” is. This is the Hebrew for “High Priest.” Our High Priest was Jesus, so we can look at this verse with that in our thoughts.

For we do not have a “high priest” (Jesus) unable to empathize with our weaknesses…

Jesus has been tempted just like us. He understands our weaknesses. He knows what we we struggle with. HE truly can empathize with us.

Yet, He did not sin.

I have a confidence that because my High Priest empathizes with me, HE truly KNOWS me.

Because of this, I can CONFIDENTLY approach HIS throne. There I can find MERCY and GRACE. When we are in need we can ask God and know that He is there for us.

It does not give us the opportunity to sin, and sin some more. No, that is not what He wants from us.

He does want us to approach with CONFIDENCE though. We do not need to hold back.

Verses like this give me HOPE. They encourage me. They let me know that I have a FATHER who loves me.

Today, know that you are LOVED and have abundant mercy and grace waiting for you. Just approach HIM and let HIM provide your need.

Love and blessings,

Rose
