God IS Love...
I have been led to focus on the LOVE of God. I believe that during this time of year many people are actually lonely. It is a time when so much activity is happening that people get lost in the shuffle. Even though it is supposed to be a time when we focus on community, it doesn’t happen. Events here, and parties there, mean people just move from place to place and do not really stop to communicate.
The verse for today is I John 4:16
Also we have come to know and trust the love that God has for us. God is love; and those who remain in this love remain united with God, and God remains united with them. (CJB)
The promise is clear… GOD is Love. Let’s read this a couple different ways!
GOD is love…
God IS love…
God is LOVE…
Emphasize the word that is capitalized. It changes the thoughts of the reading. Are we focused on God? Focused on the love?
The first phrase states that we have “come to know and trust.” There is something that we have to do. We have to KNOW and we have to TRUST.
How do we know and trust? By counting our blessings. By looking at everything that God has given to us. Being thankful for what He has given forces us to understand that He is the giver of ALL good things and that He keeps His promises which means we can trust Him.
When we believe and know that He is LOVE, we can remain in the love. We are UNITED with God. God remains with us!
I find it comforting to know that God loves me. I love knowing that the more I trust Him, the more He remains with me.
