Teach to Lead...
Matthew 20:24-28
24 Now when the other ten heard about this, they were outraged at the two brothers. 25 But Yeshua called them and said, “You know that among the Goyim (Gentiles), those who are supposed to rule them become tyrants, and their superiors become dictators. 26 Among you, it must not be like that. On the contrary, whoever among you wants to be a leader must become your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave! 28 For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve — and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Time to turn the thoughts of the world upside down. These couple verses are NOT what the world teaches.
Jesus watched as the disciples began to fight and argue amongst themselves. They were sorting who is the greatest. They wondered why James and John would even ASK to be "elevated."
The Gentiles were known to become "tyrants" and "dictators" when they became rulers. Not exactly a pleasant reputation.
Jesus said, "This is NOT how we are to act." According to this translation He said, "Among you, it MUST NOT be like that." Jesus did not want them "fighting for authority."
I think that these verses lead us to the thought and idea of authority and leadership. Here is one thought behind the difference:
Authority is the position; leadership is the character of the player. Authority doesn't grant you automatic devotion, nor does it inspire those around you. It lends you the power to give orders, but a good leader realizes their role involves much more than giving orders and observing the results.

I'm not trying to walk away from the Word of God by presenting these ideas. However, the concept that Jesus is teaching the disciples are these thoughts. He wants His followers to know and understand that they do not need to just have "authority." Jesus wants His followers to walk differently and respond differently.
As we reflect on these thoughts, we need to look at what we are teaching the children. Are we giving them good insights? Are we showing them how to be a "future leader?"
Today is the day to look upside down. Today is the day to look at how you are responding to those around you. Are you "dictating them" and "ruling them?' Or are you leading them? Are you becoming a servant and "serving?"
