Don't let yourselves be disturbed...
I opened my YouVersion BibleApp again today and saw the verse. I knew immediately I needed to share it. It is a common verse, but with the Complete Jewish Bible and The Passion Translation the wording brings a little more depth and insight.
John 14:1
“Don’t let yourselves be disturbed. Trust in God and trust in me. (CJB)
“Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also. (TPT)
I believe that we all grew up knowing this verse to say, “Do not let your ‘hearts’ be troubled…” Yes, when we are troubled it does affect our heart. But the translations I have quoted make it more personal…
Don’t let YOURSELF! Don’t worry or surrender to YOUR fear…
This makes the verse take on a whole new meaning. YOU should not be disturbed! Not just your heart, but YOU.
If we truly BELIEVE and TRUST in HIM, than it is much easier to surrender our worry and fear. We don’t need to walk around “disturbed” and frustrated. We should be able to find HOPE and peace in Him.
Will you find it in yourself to TRUST? BELIEVE? And if so, then will you turn your worry and fear over to Him and let Him carry it? His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Somehow find a way to let it go…
May you know HIS life today. May you know HIS peace today.
