Choose to Obey

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants.22 On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’23 Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’

God knows His people. He knows the hairs on their head. He knows their innermost thoughts. That is why He alone can say, "Not everyone who says to me..."

The last line is a quote from Psalms.

Psalm 6:9 (verse 8 in most versions, but 9 in the CJB)

Get away from me, all you workers of evil!

For Adonai has heard the sound of my weeping,

Jesus is referencing the fact that people were choosing not to follow Torah. Torah is the commands given by God to Moses and the Children of Israel. People willingly make the choice not to follow those teachings. Whether they were the religious scribes of the day, or those who attend church today, there is a group of people who make the choice in their heart not to follow His teachings.

I always tell people I am thankful I am not God. I am thankful that I don't have to look at the hearts of people and decide who will be with God forever, and who will not. This teaching from Jesus makes it clear that God desires a PURE heart that SEEKS Him. One that DESIRES to DO what He asks.

Today, let's make that choice to OBEY. We do this, not because we have too, but because we WANT too.

Love and Blessings,

Rose
