A Servant for Him

Matthew 24:45-51

45 “Who is the faithful and sensible servant whose master puts him in charge of the household staff, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will go well with that servant if he is found doing his job when his master comes. 47 Yes, I tell you that he will put him in charge of all he owns. 48 But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is taking his time’; 49 and he starts beating up his fellow servants and spends his time eating and drinking with drunkards; 50 then his master will come on a day the servant does not expect, at a time he doesn’t know; 51 and he will cut him in two and put him with the hypocrites, where people will wail and grind their teeth!

As I read about servants my mind thinks about the show, "Downton Abby." Our family loves to watch this and has watched the series at least three times.

Servants... an important part of life years ago. Some were treated well. Others were very mistreated and lived a life of shame.

Our Father is our Creator, but He also sent His Son to live among the people. He then told His disciples He no longer calls them servants, but "friends." We are now family.

Is this scenario, the teaching is that the servant must be prepared. The verses before were showing that we don't know the day or hour. Now we see more about simply being prepared.

We don't know when our Messiah will return. At every moment we need to be ready to meet Him. We don't want to be embarrassed and caught doing something inappropriate.

We might not be "servants," in the sense that we are in a house like Downton Abby and caring for lords and ladies. We are, however, friends of the Most High God who WANTS us to be caring for those around us. He desires us to be a community with those around us. When He returns He wants to know that we did all we could to care for those He places in our path.

Today, just stay ready. Prepare for the future, but live for today. God doesn't want us to worry about tomorrow. He wants us to be ready for today. Be HIS servant to those you meet.

Love and blessings,

Rose
