Speak GOOD fruit...

Matthew 12:33-37

33 “If you make a tree good, its fruit will be good; and if you make a tree bad, its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 You snakes! How can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what overflows from the heart. 35 The good person brings forth good things from his store of good, and the evil person brings forth evil things from his store of evil. 36 Moreover, I tell you this: on the Day of Judgment people will have to give account for every careless word they have spoken; 37 for by your own words you will be acquitted, and by your own words you will be condemned.”

More about our words... Words are important. There is the saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me." Words can hurt. Words can cause pain, or bring a blessing.

There is a verse in Psalm 119:165

Those who love your Torah have great peace;

nothing makes them stumble.

When I first learned the verse above, the version said, "Great peace have they who love Thy law (Torah) and nothing shall offend them (emphasis mine).

I learned that the "old" saying about sticks and stones is really true. IF (and this is the key) we are walking WITH Him and following HIS Torah/Commands, than words around us should NOT be as offensive to us because we KNOW WHO we are in HIM.

This doesn't give us the right to go around offending others. Just because words "shouldn't hurt," doesn't mean that we can be mean or degrading. The Words Jesus spoke in verse 36 are pretty clear:

Moreover, I tell you this: on the Day of Judgment people will have to give account for every careless word they have spoken;

People will have to give account for EVERY careless word spoken! Ouch... How many times have I spoken something in frustration or anger and been quite careless with my words. Some day I will be held accountable. It will come back to me. I must be careful with my words and choose wisely when and how I speak.

The Words above that are directly from HIS Truth, should tell us that when someone speaks negatively against us, we don't need to be offended and we should NOT stumble or fall into their clutches. We don't need to respond to them with angry words that just spew forth bad fruit.

We CAN know WHO we are IN HIM and be free from the hurt and pain that others try to inflict on us. It isn't easy, but it can happen. To LET GO of what is holding us back is not always fun, but is required. We need to be so in tune with the Spirit that those around us have no clue that we are hurting because we find our JOY in HIM.

Bring forth GOOD fruit. Speak WORDS that are from HIM and give blessings to those around you. If you must speak something that will hurt, say it with love and understanding. Words from a trusted friend, spoken in love, are so much better than words from an angry person who spews forth "bad fruit."

These Truths from Jesus Himself should bring us to a place of reflection. How do we speak to those around us? Are we bringing good fruit, or bad fruit, when we open our mouths? Remember, we WILL be held accountable.

Love and blessings,

Rose
