Skewed Scale?

Proverbs 11:1-4

False scales are an abomination to Adonai, but accurate weights please him.

2 First comes pride, then disgrace; but with the humble is wisdom.

3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the duplicity of the treacherous destroys them.

4 On the day of wrath, wealth doesn’t help; but righteousness rescues from death.

When my children first heard verse 1 about false scales, they didn't quite understand it. They didn't realize that scales can be rigged and made to cause someone to pay more. When they began to understand the concept, it made them upset. Why would someone do that????

And yet, that is what happens even today. We think someone has money, so we ask them to pay more for something, or give them a break when they do something wrong. We allow them to "break the rules" because they hit a hard time. Maybe it has to do with school and grades. Are we easier on some students than others. Are the scales balanced in how we respond??

When we get off balance, our PRIDE gets in the way and we want to look good to others. Our decision making becomes skewed. We want others to like us, so we break from integrity.

God wants us to get back to BALANCE! Accurate weights and scales. He wants us to humble ourselves enough that we LET GO of duplicity and pride. Things will not get us far in life, but relationships will. When the "day of wrath" comes, I would rather be considered righteous than wealthy. Wealth is not bad, but when is messes up our ability to listen to Him, it is.

Take time today to EMBRACE all He has blessed you with. Care for those around you. Let go of pride. Be in HIM and let HIS integrity guide you. This is where you will find LIFE!

Love and blessings,

Rose
