Passover

Tonight, according to the current Jewish calendar, Passover begins.

I am thankful for a small church that has said they would like to host a Seder meal, so I am headed to Fremont, IN later today to lead a Seder dinner. I am excited to make this happen!

Passover is one of the first "Jewish Feasts" I was introduced too. It is one most Christians know about because it is mentioned that Jesus participated in one before he was taken before Pilot. The question is, do they really understand the depth and insight that a Passover dinner holds?

There are many pieces that make up a Seder dinner. Seder means "order" and yes, there is a lot of order that happens at Passover. Lots of readings, reminders, and significance that is within the entire event. It really brings a deeper and fuller understanding of what Jesus went through and brings the week to life.

There are many different "calendars" that are argued over today. Not everyone believes that the one the Jewish people follow is accurate. The same thing happened to the Jewish people in the Bible, which is why Paul wrote in Colossians 2:16-17

So don’t let anyone pass judgment on you in connection with eating and drinking, or in regard to a Jewish festival or Rosh-Hodesh or Shabbat. These are a shadow of things that are coming, but the body is of the Messiah.

The people were arguing over when the new moon was seen. The sighting of the moon is when the new month started and then they would know when to begin the festival. If there were clouds, it made it difficult to know. One area might celebrate on a different day than another. Paul was telling them, it doesn't matter. Just celebrate it as close as you can to the day and stop bickering about it! Now, do you want to celebrate Passover in the Fall, no. But, being a day off because of clouds, is God really going to hold you accountable for that? I don't think so...

I wrote a longer blog about this years ago. Maybe I will re post it again. What I will say, I still hold true to the piece of the Bible that encourages me to participate in the Feasts that God commanded.

Tonight I will stand and help teach others about this wonderful feast. I will do my best to share the details of it in a way that brings them closer to the Creator who loves, and believes, in them. The Creator designed this festival to draw all men to Himself. God is LOVE and this feast portrays that in so many ways. By His stripes we are healed...

Chag Semach Pesach. Do this in remembrance of Him...

Love and blessings,

Rose
