Get RID of the old hametz...
I decided to teach about matzah today, and leaven. This verse came to mind after we bought our matzah for Passover today. We stopped at the local Chabad center after running errands and asked if they had matzah for sale. They had lots of boxes of one brand that was 15 Euros. There was one lonely box on the floor that she said was 6 Euros. I only had a little bit of cash on me, but she did tell me they take debit cards now, however, I decided to take the last box of the one kind knowing that it was exactly what we needed to complete our Passover dinner.
Why is matzah so important????
I Corinthians 5:7
Get rid of the old hametz (yeast/leaven), so that you can be a new batch of dough, because in reality you are unleavened. For our Pesach lamb, the Messiah, has been sacrificed. (CJB)
In this verse the matzah is the dough that is unleavened. This is what the Hebrew Children had to make when they hurriedly left Egypt and did not have time for the dough to rise and make regular bread.
God set an example before them of a way to remember that HE was taking care of them and removing leaven from their life. Matzah is an important part of a Passover dinner for this reason. They are remembering how they left, and yet were taken care of.
As Jesus taught, “hametz” (yeast/leaven) is sin. It can creep into areas of our lives and cause issues. He wants us to get rid of the sin that is there and be a “new batch” - which is a “new creature.” We let the old things go and walk in the NEW.
Once we have believed in HIM, than HE washes us clean and that is how HE sees us. HE sees us as unleavened and without sin. HE sees us as HIS CHILDREN and LOVES US unconditionally.
Recognize today that GOD has taken care of the sacrifice for you. HE is helping you remove the old leaven and sin. WALK in that understanding today.
Love and blessings,
